Marine Serre

Born in a small French village with early ambitions in tennis, Marine Serre pivoted to fashion, training at elite design houses like Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, Dior, and Balenciaga, before launching her own label. She gained rapid acclaim by winning the 2017 LVMH Prize, becoming its youngest recipient.

Known for blending Islamic motifs with sportswear and utilising sustainable, recycled fabrics, Serre has captivated audiences at Paris Fashion Week and attracted a global following. Her brand is now internationally stocked, confirming her as a rising star in the fashion world.

Structured storytelling, made to last

The films were commissioned by Nordstrom. Our task was to encapsulate the energy, excitement, and visual richness of Marine Serre’s fashion shows in film format. We wanted the audience to experience the pre-show tension, the behind-the-scenes (BTS) scenes, and the catwalk itself—offering a structured view into the heart of Paris Fashion Week’s most anticipated show.

For the first fashion film, we aimed to mimic the otherworldly atmosphere that Marine Serre naturally evokes in her runway shows. The key was to use unconventional tools to capture this essence. We shot the film using iPhones and shot directly into the show’s lasers, which lent the footage an ethereal, almost surreal quality. This approach allowed us to mirror Marine Serre’s avant-garde aesthetics effectively.

The second fashion film sought to explore the depth and richness of the dark, atmospheric spaces that Marine Serre prefers for her runway shows. To achieve this, we opted for film cameras, renowned for their ability to capture nuanced shades of darkness and light. The resultant film boasted a textured feel, replete with shadow and substance—just like Marine Serre’s fashion spaces.
